A month ago I wrote a post on how to install CyanogenMod 6.1.2 (Froyo 2.2) on Commtiva Z1 and it’s variants, which are:
# Optimus Boston
# Orange Boston
# Gigabyte Gsmart G1305
# Motorola XT502
# Apanda A60
# Vibo A688
# Chinavision Excalibur
# Muchtel A1
# Wellcom A88
# Cincinnati Bell Blaze
# Spice Mi-300
# Nexian Journey Lounge
Instructions for installing CyanogenMod 6.1:
ATTENTION: THIS WOULD WIPE ALL DATA FROM YOUR PHONE (NOT FROM THE SDCARD). SO PLEASE BACKUP ALL YOUR CONTACTS (OPEN CONTACTS AND EXPORT THEM TO A FILE), MESSAGES (USE “MY BACKUP” FOR THIS) AND APPLICATIONS (AGAIN YOU MAY USE “MY BACKUP” OR “TITANIUM BACKUP”)
Also, if you follow all my instructions correctly, after installing CyanogenMod, you can anytime revert back to your current stock rom incase you encounter any problems.
Follow the steps as it is:
1) Install the Oficial ROM 226D using the TOOLS (RUT or SUT)
2) Download the following and put them on your sd card:
CyanogenMod ROM 6.1.2 Final » http://uploading.com/files/mmm9a32b/update-cm-6.1.2-Z71-signed.zip/
Camera Patch: http://64.38.236.5/~bajirutc/android/Patch_Cam_CM-6.1.2-Z71.zip
Google Apps » http://uploading.com/files/bb31bacb/gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip/
3) Get the “RomManager” app from market
4) In “RomManager” select “Flash ClockworkMod Recovery”
5) Select “Commtiva Z71″ phone (compatible with Boston and clones)
6) Copy the rom update-cm-6.1.0-Z71-signed.zip and the Google Apps zip file to sdcard
7) In “RomManager” select “Install ROM from sdcard” and choose the Rom file
Select both the options ie 1. Backup existing rom and 2. Wipe data and cache and click “Okay”
9) Now it will automatically boot into recovery and start the installation, this process would take a lot of time upto 25 mins, so be patient.
10) Phone will now automatically reboot, again as it is a fresh install, it will take a lot for time for it to boot for the first time.
11) Open “Rom Manager” and click “Boot into recovery”
12) You will now be booted into the recovery console.
13) Here use the volume buttons to scroll up and down and the trackball to select an option (and back softkey to go back).
14) Due to some problem with the recovery, clicking volume button once, makes it go down 2 options, so you need to be fast and click the trackball instantly after clicking the volume up/down button (this is if you need to select the option below where you currently are)
15) Select “Install update from sdcard” and select your Google Apps file
16) Again, select “Install update from sdcard” and select the Camera Patch file
17) Hit the back button and select “Reboot Phone”
18) Enjoy Froyo!
Reverting back to your Stock ROM incase of any problems:
1) Open “Rom Manager”
2) Click on “Manage and Restore Backups”
3) Select the backup and click okay
4) It will automatically restore your phone to your earlier/stock ROM with all your previous settings, contacts, messages and applications.
If you are unable to open ROM Manager or unable to boot into the ROM, you may direct go into the Recovery Mode by switching off your phone and then pressing camera+vol up+power buttons and then clicking restore and selecting your the rom your want to restore.

Today I tried to install the latest Swype Beta update i.e. version 2.15.56.14870. While installing, I came to know that they’ve changed the way Swype beta used to install, now we need to install Swype first, then disable it from settings (so that it can generate a license for the device) and then re-enable it.
Now the problem with this is, that the new MIUI rom does not have the option to disable a keyboard, though we have the option to select the default keyborad, we can just disable any one of them (unlike the stock rom where we can disable a keyboard). So this problem leads to Swype not getting properly installed and giving this error: “The Swype package you installed is configured for another device…”
So here’s what I did to correctly install Swype:
1. Unistalled both the Swype installer and Swype.
2. Downloaded the latest Swype installer from here: http://beta.swype.com/android/get
3. Open the installer and login with your Swype Beta id and password
4. Click on “Install Swype”
5. When it tells you to “Disable Swype”, hit the home menu and open “Titanium Backup”, then scroll down to “Swype” and click “Backup” (no need to backup the installer) and after backing up Swype, click “Uninstall”.
6. Long click the home button and click “Swype Installer”
7. “Generate License” button should now be activated, click it
8. It will now go to the login screen again
9. Login again and after logging in, it will again tell you to “Install Swype”, DON’T click on install this time
10. Hit the home button, open “Titanium Backup”, goto Swype and click “Restore”
11. Long press Home and click “Swype Installer”
12. Click “Finish”
13. You should now have Swype installed and running perfectly fine.
If you still have problems installing Swype on the MIUI rom, leave below in comments and I’ll be glad to solve them.
UPDATE: After trying my own method again to confirm if it’s working fine or now, I found out that it DOESN’T work instantly, after each time you reach step 13, open up your keyboard and check if it’s working or not, if not, then you will need to repeat the whole process again and again till it works (Max 6 tries are guaranteed to make it work (don’t know why but this is how it is with the latest MIUI))

CyanogenMod for Commtiva Z1
A month ago I gifted a Spice MI-300 to my father. It came preloaded with Android 1.6 and Android 2.1 was promised as an upgrade. Now about a week ago the update came out and I updated the handset to 2.1, but to my surprise the update had underclocked the CPU speed to 400 Mhz instead of using the processor to it’s full potential i.e. @ 600 Mhz. So I mailed them and came to know that this was done so as to increase the phone’s battery life.
Nevertheless I started to research about rooting the handset and upgrading it with a custom rom. I was surprised to know that this handset is in fact a clone/rebranded version of Commtiva Z1 and not only that, it’s not just the only clone of Commtiva Z1 but there are plenty of other variants/clones using the exactly same hardware.
Finally after all my research I was able to find a way to root Mi-300 (and it’s variants) and install a custom 2.1 rom so that I could overclock it back to 600 Mhz. For step by step instructions on how to root and install a custom Android 2.1 rom, go HERE, else for installing CyanogenMod 6.1 RC1 i.e. Android Froyo 2.2 continue reading…

No matter how you enjoy yourself, you will see that entertainment is some way or the other influenced by technology. Even a simple family festive occasion like a Christmas party gets an added charm with the help of technology. What brings the festive mood into your party? If you think about it, you would agree that it is the decorative lighting that you have put up in your house. In fact one of the main reasons your street looks festive enough is the decorative lighting. In fact these days there are separate entertainment shows which use these decorative lighting along with superb sound effects quite creatively. This is all powered by technology.
Technology has made life quite easier for us. Compared to the amenities that our forefathers had enjoyed, we are much better off than. Regardless of which line you are into, there is a marked improvement in your standard of living compared to what the standard of living was say around 50 years back. And this advancement is not a stagnant one. In fact one of the fastest developments has been seen in the field of technology. The development of technology is so fast paced that a gadget which seems to be the most advanced one today would be completely outdated and obsolete two years from now. Let us look at how some of the technological advances have been used to our advantage.
One of the most important areas of development is the area of communication. In fact mobile phones are something that everyone needs to own these days. No matter which line you are in, you definitely have one mobile cell phone. In fact, these days even kids are being given cell phones so that it is easy to track them. This small wonder has made life convenient by leaps and bounds! Initially to contact someone through telephone, you would have to be sure that the person was home. But not anymore! Nowadays you can actually get the person you are trying to contact even if he or she is not home. Regardless of whether the person is, on the road or visiting a different town, it is possible to get in touch with him.
However the cell phone evolved as well. Initially the high-end models just had an extra source of decorative lighting at the back or the screen LCD quality was better. But as the world of mobile phones got better, more and more features got added into this small wonder. In fact it began with the music stereos and FM radios. This was followed by the mp3. Slowly and steadily there was a need for larger cell phone memory. This extra memory was needed for the purpose of the added features. These added features also meant that some extra files were being stored in cell phones. These files further needed an extra space.
Following the mp3 the next feature that was added was the camera. Although the first mobile phones which had camera were mainly VGA cameras with the development of technology the picture quality started improving. With better picture quality more and more pictures were taken by the camera phones. Since these pictures were stored in the phone memory, there started to need for greater capacity of storage. This meant that the cell phone memory had to be increased. Initially the inbuilt memory of the phone was enough, but gradually everyone needed an extra memory card which added on to the cell phone memory. In fact now the cell phones come with all the functions of a computer including accessing the internet.
Technology is so deeply embedded in our lives that we in fact cannot think of what life could be like in case we did not have technology to assist us. How our forefathers might have lived without the aid of technology is beyond our comprehension? Technology is no longer kept in the periphery of our world. It is not anymore the tool of the rich and the powerful. It is in fact an integral part of our world, used and enjoyed by the rich and the poor alike. It is not just a part of our world; it is the heart of our world. Technology is a true boon to our society.

Recently a new way of rooting an Android device came up which allowed us to root without unlocking the bootloader and thereby not voiding our warranty. This method was way too complicated for a normal user as it involved opening the phone and messing around with the SD card slot. Very soon after this method, another method came which allowed us to Root an Android device without opening our phones and without messing with the SD card slot, but again this method wasn’t as easy as the one i’m going to tell you next…
Few days ago a Taiwanese blog wrote about a method which indeed is the simplest of all methods to root a device without unlocking the bootloader. It uses the same exploit as used to root the Droid X. All it requires you to do is just a click and you’ll be having a rooted android device without even voiding your warranty.
Here’s how to root your android device using the most simplest method ever:
1. Click Here and download the latest version of ”Universal Androot”
2. Install & open the apk file
3. Click “Root”
That’s it! Everything else it will do by itself (It downloads and installs Superuser and then roots your phone).

It also has an option to unroot your device in case of any issue.
Here is a list of phones compatible with this method:
- Google Nexus One (2.2)
- Google G1 (1.6)
- HTC Hero (2.1)
- HTC Magic (1.5)
- Dell Streak (2.1)
- Motorola Milestone (2.1)
- Motorola XT701
- Motorola XT800 (2.1)
- Motorola ME511
- Sony Ericsson X10 (1.6)
- Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro (1.6)
- Acer Liquid (2.1)
- Acer neoTouch E400 (2.1)
- Vibo A688 (1.6)
- Lenovo Lephone (1.6)
Here is a list of phones which are NOT compatible with this method:
- Samsung i9000 (Galaxy S)
- Samsung i6500U
- Samsung i7500
- Motorola ME600 (1.5)
- Motorola MB300
- Motorola ME501
- HuaWei U8220
- HTC Desire / Legend / Wildfire (/ system can not write)

Dyson Air Multiplier
Dyson latest invention, a window fan without the blades, is target the richer a society. It is one of the most striking & most ridiculously expensive gadgets launched yet. In a way I like it.
Multiply air costs $299 for 10-inch version and $329 for 12-inch version. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy the $330 one so I’m reviewing using the $300 version.
So how does a fan without blades, a donut on a stick, do the work? The bottom shelves are for air intake, driven by what I presume is an internal fan.
But you feel the multiplier inhaling. As this air is transported through the device, making its way through the loop amplifier, it speeds up the acceleration of the air 15 times because it is pushed through an opening 1.3 mm around the ring. Stick your hand in the loop, you will feel the air outside the ring because it is the case of the opening. It is fantastic to say the least.
I must admit, but I do know the fan works now, all I could think of was that resembled a large magnifying glass when I first opened the box.
I temporarily disconnected all plastic inside, press a button that could take power, and my new toy roared to life as a hair dryer. My face has never been hit with the same quality of air: a limitless flow even felt a small more industrial than residential.
The wind was surprisingly concentrated, but not worthy of hurricanes. (Later, I discovered the air to measure the 119 liters per second. This output is tied with at least one fan commercial grade 10-inch shy of the mark of $200 & 30, fan duct eight inch produces about half. Most fans of the consumer level not provide the Air Force.)
When explore the device, I spotted that even hate any fan that was used after having worked exactly like all the fans who had historically in the past used.
For example, a circuit breaker button swing. Another twist on the revolution speed of the air (one gradation of traditional low, medium & controls). & the bottom may be pushed forward & backward tilt of the unit in to a more stylish, but not different from my work with $ ten in the next room.
In fact, the multiplier air series more stunning than ever used, but at its heart an ordinary citizen, a window fan.
In fact, I am embarrassed for the taste of the multiplier on the waves. There is no doubt that some Dyson need a premium for its modern design. But ultimately it is the first time comparatively low. All lovely gaps cost a few hundred dollars, which increased sales from Dyson is reasonable, but tempting.
$ 300 for a fan is present, the more sales when you can get 95% of the experience of $ ten at Walmart. Even as a lovely fan, even as a stunning range, himself as a smart fan that blocks less light through the window, even as a fan kid or an animal can be examined without damage, am humbled at the love, in this economy.
