CyanogenMod for Commtiva Z1

CyanogenMod for Commtiva Z1

A month ago I gifted a Spice MI-300 to my father. It came preloaded with Android 1.6 and Android 2.1 was promised as an upgrade. Now about a week ago the update came out and I updated the handset to 2.1, but to my surprise the update had underclocked the CPU speed to 400 Mhz instead of using the processor to it’s full potential i.e. @ 600 Mhz. So I mailed them and came to know that this was done so as to increase the phone’s battery life.

Nevertheless I started to research about rooting the handset and upgrading it with a custom rom. I was surprised to know that this handset is in fact a clone/rebranded version of Commtiva Z1 and not only that, it’s not just the only clone of Commtiva Z1 but there are plenty of other variants/clones using the exactly same hardware.

Finally after all my research I was able to find a way to root Mi-300 (and it’s variants) and install a custom 2.1 rom so that I could overclock it back to 600 Mhz. For step by step instructions on how to root and install a custom Android 2.1 rom, go HERE, else for installing CyanogenMod 6.1 RC1 i.e. Android Froyo 2.2 continue reading…

Recently a new way of rooting an Android device came up which allowed us to root without unlocking the bootloader and thereby not voiding our warranty. This method was way too complicated for a normal user as it involved opening the phone and messing around with the SD card slot. Very soon after this method, another method came which allowed us to Root an Android device  without opening our phones and without messing with the SD card slot, but again this method wasn’t as easy as the one i’m going to tell you next…

Few days ago a Taiwanese blog wrote about a method which indeed is the simplest of all methods to root a device without  unlocking the bootloader. It uses the same exploit as used to root the Droid X. All it requires you to do is just a click and you’ll be having a rooted android device without even voiding your warranty.

Here’s how to root your android device using the most simplest method ever:

1. Click Here and download the latest version of  ”Universal Androot”

2.  Install & open the apk file

3. Click “Root”

That’s it! Everything else it will do by itself  (It downloads and installs Superuser and then roots your phone).

Root your android phone

It also has an option to unroot your device in case of any issue.

Here is a list of phones compatible with this method:

  • Google Nexus One (2.2)
  • Google G1 (1.6)
  • HTC Hero (2.1)
  • HTC Magic (1.5)
  • Dell Streak (2.1)
  • Motorola Milestone (2.1)
  • Motorola XT701
  • Motorola XT800 (2.1)
  • Motorola ME511
  • Sony Ericsson X10 (1.6)
  • Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro (1.6)
  • Acer Liquid (2.1)
  • Acer neoTouch E400 (2.1)
  • Vibo A688 (1.6)
  • Lenovo Lephone (1.6)

Here is a list of phones which are NOT compatible with this method:

  • Samsung i9000 (Galaxy S)
  • Samsung i6500U
  • Samsung i7500
  • Motorola ME600 (1.5)
  • Motorola MB300
  • Motorola ME501
  • HuaWei U8220
  • HTC Desire / Legend / Wildfire (/ system can not write)

Dyson Air Multiplier

Dyson Air Multiplier

Dyson latest invention, a window fan without the blades, is target the richer a society. It is one of the most striking & most ridiculously expensive gadgets launched yet. In a way I like it.

Multiply air costs $299 for 10-inch version and $329 for 12-inch version. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy the $330 one so I’m reviewing using the $300 version.

So how does a fan without blades, a donut on a stick, do the work? The bottom shelves are for air intake, driven by what I presume is an internal fan.

But you feel the multiplier inhaling. As this air is transported through the device, making its way through the loop amplifier, it speeds up the acceleration of the air 15 times because it is pushed through an opening 1.3 mm around the ring. Stick your hand in the loop, you will feel the air outside the ring because it is the case of the opening. It is fantastic to say the least.

I must admit, but I do know the fan works now, all I could think of was that resembled a large magnifying glass when I first opened the box.

I temporarily disconnected all plastic inside, press a button that could take power, and my new toy roared to life as a hair dryer. My face has never been hit with the same quality of air: a limitless flow even felt a small more industrial than residential.

The wind was surprisingly concentrated, but not worthy of hurricanes. (Later, I discovered the air to measure the 119 liters per second. This output is tied with at least one fan commercial grade 10-inch shy of the mark of $200 &  30, fan duct eight inch produces about half. Most fans of the consumer level not provide the Air Force.)

When explore the device, I spotted that even hate any fan that was used after having worked exactly like all the fans who had historically in the past used.

For example, a circuit breaker button swing. Another twist on the revolution speed of the air (one gradation of traditional low, medium & controls). & the bottom may be pushed forward & backward tilt of the unit in to a more stylish, but not different from my work with $ ten in the next room.

In fact, the multiplier air series more stunning than ever used, but at its heart an ordinary citizen, a window fan.

In fact, I am embarrassed for the taste of the multiplier on the waves. There is no doubt that some Dyson need a premium for its modern design. But ultimately it is the first time comparatively low. All lovely gaps cost a few hundred dollars, which increased sales from Dyson is reasonable, but tempting.

$ 300 for a fan is present, the more sales when you can get 95% of the experience of $ ten at Walmart. Even as a lovely fan, even as a stunning range, himself as a smart fan that blocks less light through the window, even as a fan kid or an animal can be examined without damage, am humbled at the love, in this economy.

Caffeine Search Engine!? Well, what the hell is that?…It’s the Google’s newly unvield search engine! :P

Yesterday, Google launched the developers preview of it’s new infrastructure i.e. Caffeine Search Engine. This preview doesn’t have any new UI but the search results hugely differ from the normal search. Most probably these results will remain as it is and even if any changes do occur, they’ll be very minor ones.

Developments and Improvements in Google’s Caffeine Search Engine:

  • Caffeine Search Engine is really fast in terms of giving accurate and very relevant results
  • It has a totally different SEO algorithm (all SEO specialists start figuring out how the new algo works :P )
  • The results are much more relevant and accurate as compared to the original ones (Google.com as of now)
  • The MOST major and the biggest change in Caffeine Search Engine is the indexing speed. Caffeine Search Engine has a very high indexing speed, it can index sites really fast and efficiently.

Some FAQ’s:

Q. When will we actually start seeing these new changes in Google.com ?

According to what Matt Cutt said, you should start seeing the changes in Google.com results within a few weeks or maybe a month so.

Q. Will the new Caffeine Search Engine infrastructure affect various SEO techniques?

Yes it will affect the SEO techniques for sure but the most affected sites will be those which use Black Hat SEO techniques to gain better rankings in search engines. Most of the White Hat SEO Techniques/sites should not be affected. So overall the results should be much much better and relevant.

Q. Can I give feedback about the the new Caffeine Search Engine? What do I do if I see spam sites or sites using Black Hat methods to gain rankings in the new Search Engine infrastructure?

Yes, you can give a feedback to Google and for that all you need to do is, do a search with the keyword you found the spam results and click on “ Dissatisfied? Help us improve” and submit you feedback.

Note: Please include the word “caffeine” in your feedback else it may be neglected.

Q. Did Google come out with this update to keep up with the competetion with Bing and Yahoo?

Mmmm…I personally don’t think so. Google is always after “quality” of the results and I’m pretty sure they would have done this even if there was no Bing or Yahoo.

Q. Can I see the international results like searching in Google.co.in or Google.co.uk ?

No, you can’t. Currently, Caffeine Search Engine is only availble to search Globally, you can’t make Geo-Targetted searches.

With Google’s Caffeine Search Engine i.e. the developers preview of the updates search results, you can even see your new upcoming rank in Google.com

So what are you waiting for? Click Here to check out your new rank with the Google’s Caffeine Search Engine!

Fun Fact: According to a calculation Google’s Caffeine Search Engin i.e. the developers preview could lead to 1 Billion+ extra searches a DAY!!

If you’re a newbie starting BH SEO, you must have heard about blackhat techniques like Doorway Pages and Cloaking, but do you exactly know what’s the difference between them and what are their uses?? If you don’t keep reading…

A Doorway page is a keyword stuffed page which after a few minutes redirects to another page ie the actual page the webmaster wants to show. This page is generally a Affiliate page or an CPA offer. So using doorway pages, BOTH Google and human see the same page (atleast for the first few seconds till the meta redirect occurs).

Whereas Cloaking is a situation when search engines like Google and Yahoo see the dooway page ie the keyword optimized page whereas the visitors see a totally different page, which again is generally an Affilite or an CPA offer.

Some softwares used to perform Cloaking are:

* Kloakit
* Fantomas
* Search Engine Cloaker
* Phantom Cloaker
* CloakingMaster
* John Heard’s Food Script

Some WordPress Cloaking Scripts are:

* WordPress Cloaker
* WP Cloaker
* MonsterClicks Cloaker

Note: Cloaking and Doorways pages both are really blackhat techniques which can cause your site to get deindexed from Google if done wrongly ;)

Johntp has written a great post comparing the Blog earnings of some of the great Bloggers who dared to reveal their monthly income.

Money Making from a Blog is the most interesting topic that I can think of. One of my favorite Bloggers, who has made money online with a Blog is John Chow. The thing which I like about him the most is that he reveals his monthly income that he makes from his Blog.

John Chow’s blog was started on September 2006. He made a whooping $352.92 with Google Adsense in his first month after monetizing his Blog and just a year later his monthly earnings had touched $27,240.83 which is quite a progressive development :-) . John kept adding more n more money making sources which helped him to increase his monthly revenue.

Today I’ll compare the earnings of 2 bloggers (John Chow, and Everton) who revealed their monthly revenues:

Page Views and Traffic

  • Thilak: 232,120 page impressions/views
  • Everton: 220K unique visitors and 452000 page impressions/views
  • John Chow: 127,614 unique visits and 266,641 page impressions/views

Earnings Comparison of December 2007

  • AdSense $977.60 (John Chow), $2,498 (Everton)
  • Text Link Ads $2,097.74 (John Chow), $1,709 (Everton)
  • FeedBurner Ads $99.80 (John Chow), $81 (Everton)
  • Direct Ad Sales $400.00 (John Chow), $360 (Everton)
  • Subscription $40.00 (John Chow)
  • ReviewMe $5,400.00 (John Chow), $280 (Everton)
  • IntelliTXT $516.98 (John Chow)
  • Kontera $1,000.00 (John Chow)
  • Linkworth $168 (Everton)
  • Sponsored Reviews $163 (Everton)
  • Affiliate Sales $5,701.48 (John Chow)
  • AdVolcano $375.00 (John Chow)
  • TTZ Media $321.14 (John Chow)
  • Pirvate Ad Sales $10,480.00 (John Chow)
  • TribalFusion $1,333 (Everton)
  • TNX $0 (Everton)
  • Grand Total $25,040.36 (John Chow), $8,192 (Everton)

Total Blog Income for 2007: $180,305.94 (John Chow)

Total Blog Income for 2007: $103,240 (Everton)

Conclusion:

With this we can conclude that Google Adsense is not the only way to Make Money Online, but still it is by far the best earning program for a blog at an initial stage. Gradually as your traffic increases keep adding more and more online money making sources and programs, this will help you to keep your revenue constantly growing.

This shows that we should never put all our eggs in one basket and Google Adsense is not the end of everything. If these Bloggers can earn a six figure income online, why cant you? :-) )

According to my opinion, Blogging is necessary for a site’s quick and progressive development. A Blog, undoubtedly gives a great boost to the site’s Pagerank and even helps a site to get listed under the top results (for the specific keywords) in the Major Search Engines like Google and Yahoo.

It is always advisable for a Blogger to make a blog with the help of a blogging platform such as Blogger, WordPress or Typepad. Now the question which arises in everyone’s mind is that “Which blogging platform should we choose?” For these questions to be answered I’m giving you the salient features of both of the largest blogging communities i.e. Blogger/Blogspot and WordPress for you to compare for yourself.

1) Getting Indexed by Search Engines :

As Google is the largest search engine and Blogger comes under the chain of Google, Blogger is always given more preference and it generally gets indexed by Google within some hours of publishing blog whereas WordPress on the other hand takes more time to get indexed by Google.

This point won by Blogspot (B-1,W-0)

2) Monetizing Your Blog :

If want to start a blog with the sole purpose of earning money from it, WordPress is not the correct option for you, as it does not allow any kind of advertising to place on their blog until and unless the blog is externally hosted on your own personal domain.

This point won by Blogspot (B-2,W-0)

3) Externally Hosting a Blog :

External hosting means that you create a blog with the help of a blogging platform such as Blogger or WordPress and then host it on your on domain having its own hosting space.

To externally host a Blog made on Blogspot is quite easy, as you only have to fill in the FTP details and you are done. But to externally host a WordPress blog you need to pass through a lot of hurdles like: You need to know SQL and a bit of php scripting, which is quite difficult for a new blogger.

This point won by Blogspot (B-3,W-0)

4) Functionality :

WordPress has a lot more functionality as compared to Blogger as it provides a whole lot of new features and plugins in comparison to Blogspot.

In comparison of functionality, obviously WordPress is the winner (B-3,W-1)

5) Themes / Templates /Layout :

Of course WordPress Templates deserved a different section “Themes / Templates / Layout” as WordPress supports a large variety of Templates and Themes which are of great use and help in increasing the beauty, look and feel of the blog.

This point is won by WordPress (B-3,W-2)

6) Upload Files

WordPress allows you to upload files whereas Blogger / Blogspot does not.

This point is won by WordPress (B-3,W-3)

7) Creating Seperate Pages :

Many time you need to create seperate pages such as “About Me” and “Contact Us” which is not allowed by Blogger but is allowed by WordPress.

This point is won by WordPress (B-3,W-4)

8) Allowing to Change Blog URL :

It may happen someday that you maybe want to change your Blog URL which is not permitted by WordPress whereas Blogger allows you to change your Blog URL whenever you want.

This point is won by Blogger (B-4,W-4)

Conclusion:

From all the above we conclude that :-

a. If you want to host a Blog for earning purposes, and have some initial amount to spend (i.e. for the domain and hosting space, which sums upto around $100/year i.e. $10/year for the Domain and $7/month for the hosting space),  then go for wordpress. This would give your blog a personalize domain name (http://www.yoursite.com) and also the whole lot of features which wordpress offers.

b. If you want to host a blog for earning purposes/non-earning purposes, but do not want to spend an initial amount, Blogspot is the best option for you. The only drawback in this is that you’ll get a blog which will have a url containg “blogspot”. eg) http://www.yoursite.blogpot.com
